Breast Augmentation (Breast enhancement)

Breasts undergo significant changes during a woman's lifetime. While having perky, uplifted breasts is desirable, pregnancy, breastfeeding and ageing can cause them to lose their youthful shape and firmness.

Breast augmentation, boob job, augmentation mammoplasty - there are a lot of different names that this procedure goes by. It is a surgical procedure that aims to increase the size, shape or fullness of the breasts using breast implants or fat transfer.

What are breast implants ?

A breast implant is a medical prosthesis that is placed inside the breast to augment, reconstruct or create the physical form of the breast.

There are two main types of breast implants :

  1. Saline Implants : They are filled with a sterile saline solution, similar to the fluid that makes up most of our body. The solution is held within an elastomer silicone shell. Some are pre filled and others are filled during the implant surgery. The feel of these implants is much firmer than gel, less natural and thus fewer woman prefer this as an option.
  2. Silicone gel filled implants : They consist of a silicone outer shell filled with a silicone gel. The quality of gel and the shell itself has evolved with time and research, making them quite long-lasting and with a superior feel. These days highly cohesive silicone gel breast implants, also known as “gummy bear breast implant” are gaining popularity over traditional or regular breast implants. In case of any mishap, or leak, the gel does not drip out. More than 90% of women prefer silicone implants, which now come up with up to 15 years warranty.

Both saline and silicone implants come in different sizes. Each has its own pros, and cons, so it is a matter of preference.

Fat Graft Breast Augmentation (Breast )

Fat transfer provides an alternative to Breast Implants. Fat transfer breast augmentation essentially uses liposuction to take fat from other parts of your body and inject it into your breasts, increasing your cup size. It poses fewer risks than augmentation with breast implants.

A fat transfer breast augmentation is an outpatient procedure. You go home the same day. During the procedure, your surgeon:

  • Uses liposuction to harvest fat deposits from several areas of your body.
  • Runs the fat cells through the centrifuge device to remove any impurities.
  • Uses special syringes to inject the purified fat cells into different tissue layers inside of your breasts

It is the least invasive procedure that involves no large incisions. No such serious risks are involved in the procedure since it uses the body's own fat.

Results

The recovery is good and fast as these are injectables into the breasts. With this procedure, the shape of the breasts can be improved and the cleavage can be enhanced. So it is very important for the candidate to have realistic expectations from the surgery.

Gynecomastia (Breast enhancement)

Gynecomastia is a common condition in male adults and boys. It causes the breasts to swell and become abnormally large.

Breast gland enlargement may affect males of all ages. Gynecomastia is the result of additional breast tissue rather than fat. Exercising or losing weight will not reduce the breast tissue in Gynecomastia.

The breast consists of firm and dense glandular tissue and softer fatty tissue. A male with gynecomastia may have too much of both types of tissue.

Liposuction can remove excess fatty tissue. After surgery, the chest will be bruised and swollen, and the person may have to wear an elastic pressure garment to reduce the swelling.

What causes Gynecomastia ?

Several factors can cause Gynecomastia,

  • Hormone Imbalance: Gynecomastia can be caused by an imbalance between the sex hormones testosterone and oestrogen.
  • Obesity: Being very overweight can cause increased levels of oestrogen, which can cause breast tissue to grow.
  • Puberty: During puberty, boys’ hormone levels vary which can cause breast tissue to grow.
  • Ageing: As men get older, they produce less testosterone and more of oestrogen.
  • Side effects of few medicines
  • Alcohol misuse
  • Illegal drugs such as cannabis or anabolic steroids
